What a journey Darla's life has been! It was, at times, difficult to read about the darkness and pain, but Darla beautifully shared the redeeming power of God's love.

I could so relate to parts of Darla's life - as women we usually feel inadequate! Darla brings you right in with all the good and bad times. Seeing how God used Darla's dark times to bring her into the fullness of His love shows how He never gives up on us. He is so faithful! Darla's unique circumstances of childhood are worth understanding as to show the reader how God is always there for us no matter what lies ahead. Her journey into adulthood is full of challenges and decisions from which we can all learn.

Some passages in this wonderful, personal story are quite difficult to get through given the subject matter. Other passages offer humor or family adventure or sadness and heart-wrenching drama. The entirety of the book brings the reader into the heart, mind and faith of the author. There are glimpses into humanity and kindness where it's least expected and there are detailed descriptions of the violence, fear and loveless relationships the author endured throughout her life. What is crystal clear throughout the book, is the journey the author takes with God and how her faith grows stronger and stronger and shaped who she is today.
With heart-breaking honesty, Darla Dumler's transparency underscores a woman's longing to be loved and willingness to go to extreme lengths to earn the approval of others. Her emotional journey through darkness led her to a deeper understanding of God's love, the discovery of her value in His eyes, and a place of healing.
Even if you are not personally acquainted with domestic abuse, prepare to face your own insecurities and learn to recognize the voice of truth in order to walk in the miracle of grace. Just keep a box of tissues handy.
